Our high quality, Class ‘A’ surface ABS sheet is ideal for applications where aesthetics and surface quality are critical.
Combine the strength and rigidity of acrylonitrile and styrene with the toughness of polybutadiene rubber and you get Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, or ABS. ABS is a thermoplastic amorphous polymer that is opaque in its natural state. This material has excellent impact resistance and toughness making it ideal for applications where sturdiness, strength and stiffness are critical requirements. ABS also exhibits a strong resistance to corrosive chemicals.
General purpose ABS is relatively low cost and is easy to machine and fabricate and can be seen being used in construction / utility applications and packaging. Our extruded ABS is the ideal substrate for applications such as:
- Automotive interiors
- Construction & Tool Sets
- Household Appliances
- Permanent and Point of Purchase Displays
Class ‘A’ Surface ABS
Impact also carries a specialty ABS with a “Class A” surface that is currently being used in paint and film lamination applications for the automotive and consumer appliance markets. As a result of the efficiencies achieved over time, decorative lamination technologies have now penetrated the automotive, electronic and appliance markets bringing aesthetically pleasing surfaces to a diverse range of product applications.
In the automotive industry, any decorative surface in the interior cabin and the entire exterior, with the exception of the under body, requires a class “A” surface. Impact Plastics has been successfully supplying ABS sheet as the substrate for wood grain film lamination applications used as interior panels in many luxury automobiles seen on the road today. In addition, our ABS sheet is used as the substrate for ornamental decorative brand logos on the automobile’s exterior. Our Class ‘A’ surface has abrasion resistance and electrostatic dissipative properties, and is free of blemishes and surface imperfections.
With continued advancements in technology myriad specialty grades of ABS continue to emerge. Custom ABS grades with specialty properties are available upon request. Impact Plastics recommends testing of the material for every new application and custom tailors ABS formulations to meet the customers ultimate goals for their project.
